Content & Conduct Policy

PriceMapper is a community-powered platform. To maintain trust and data quality, all users must adhere to this policy.

1. Prohibited Content

1.1 Personal Information

  • Receipts showing other people's names, addresses, or contact information
  • Payment card numbers or financial account details
  • Government IDs, health information, or other sensitive data
  • Loyalty card numbers or membership IDs belonging to others

1.2 Illegal or Harmful Content

  • Receipts for illegal goods or services
  • Fraudulent or forged receipts
  • Content that promotes illegal activity

1.3 Manipulated Data

  • Doctored or photoshopped receipts
  • Intentionally false prices or product information
  • Bulk automated submissions designed to skew data

2. Prohibited Behaviors

2.1 Data Manipulation

  • Submitting fake prices to manipulate recommendations
  • Creating multiple accounts to inflate contribution counts
  • Coordinating with others to submit false data
  • Using bots or automation to submit data

2.2 Harassment & Abuse

  • Using price data to harass or shame retailers or employees
  • Doxxing or identifying store employees from receipts
  • Engaging in "gotcha" journalism targeting specific locations
  • Threatening or intimidating other users or businesses

2.3 Platform Abuse

  • Scraping or harvesting data from our platform
  • Attempting to reverse-engineer our algorithms
  • Circumventing rate limits or security measures
  • Impersonating PriceMapper staff or other users

3. Responsible Use of Price Data

Our Data Philosophy

PriceMapper exists to help consumers make informed decisions, not to "catch" retailers or create adversarial relationships. We believe transparent pricing benefits everyone.

Acceptable uses of price data:

  • Personal shopping decisions
  • Household budgeting
  • General price trend awareness
  • Comparison shopping

Unacceptable uses:

  • Public shaming campaigns against specific stores
  • Harassment of store employees over pricing
  • Competitive intelligence gathering for commercial purposes
  • Reselling or redistributing our aggregated data

4. Enforcement

Violations of this policy may result in:

  • Warning: First-time minor violations
  • Data Removal: Deletion of violating content
  • Temporary Suspension: 7-30 day account suspension
  • Permanent Ban: Severe or repeated violations
  • Legal Action: For fraud, harassment, or illegal activity

5. Reporting Violations

If you encounter content or behavior that violates this policy, please report it. Include as much detail as possible. All reports are reviewed by our moderation team.

6. Appeals

If you believe your account was suspended in error, you may appeal. Appeals are reviewed within 5 business days. Decisions are final.
